The Sonnenwirth Family Jewish Library opened in July 2023. It is named in loving memory of Dr. Alex and Mrs. Rosaline Sonnenwirth, and their dear son Dr. Maurice Sonnenwirth.
Dr. & Mrs. Sonnenwirth’s home was filled with love, with Yiddishkeit, and a passion for education. Mrs. Rosaline Sonnenwirth was a truly devoted family matriarch, who as a reading specialist was an affectionate mentor and tutor to so many students in our community. Dr. Alex Sonnenwirth, a Holocaust Survivor who became a world-renowned scientist, emphasized to his cherished family the values of learning, knowledge, pikuach nefesh, and ahavas yisroel.
Dr. Maurice “Mo” Sonnenwirth was an adoring husband and father, a beloved and highly respected Emergency Room physician, and a dear friend to so many in our community.
All three were avid & voracious readers, who loved Jewish children beyond measure. They would be so proud to support reading by new generations of Klal Yisroel.
September 2024 marked the opening of our Young Children’s Collection, dedicated by Richard Senturia in loving memory of his wife, Nathanne Gitt Senturia, a”h. The Young Children's collection is full of picture books for children ages 2-7, honoring Nathanne’s love of reading to young children.
We are incredibly grateful to the Ozar, Sonnenwirth, and Senturia families for their generosity and support of this important project.
